The Carnival of Rethymno, which has taken place for more than 100 years, is a cultural and creative institution constantly enriched and empowered by the municipality of Rethymno and the relevant associations.
It occurs annually on the last Sunday of Carnival and thousands of visitors from Greece and abroad come to Rethymno in order to participate in or enjoy one of the largest Carnival events in the country. During the great carnival parade, on the central avenue of the city, you can see tens of groups with floats and hundreds of masqueraded people, while the whole city is celebrating! It is also worth noting that it relies on volunteer work, since people of all ages passionately support the Carnival of Rethymno, empower it with their love, enrich it with their original ideas and assist the materialization of its events. In any case, Rethymno city promotes the exceptional identity of its residents and fosters its age-old history and rich tradition through this great Carnival.
